Overview

"Capturing and translating the essence—the feeling you have for a person or animal—into a powerful form."

The choice for animals
My choice to work with animals stems from the freedom I feel in using animal forms to express emotion. Through abstraction, I can take greater creative liberties while still maintaining recognisability. What personally moves me, I try to bring forward through the individuality of the chosen animal. Capturing the essence of the animal is equally important to me.

I create many variations on a single theme and approach it from multiple angles—considering form, structure, and surface.
Commissions offer me the opportunity to create larger works and often lead to new artistic directions.

My sculptures are cast in bronze and finished in various patinas.

Training and background
I studied at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten (1971–1976) in Amsterdam, where I was taught by Paul Grégoire, Piet Esser and Théresia van der Pant.
In 1985, I completed a pedagogical/didactic art training, and since 1976 I have been working as an artist in Eindhoven.
Several of my works are located in public spaces.
