Overview

Karin’s figurative bronze sculptures breathe the atmosphere of everyday life.

Karin’s figurative bronze sculptures breathe the atmosphere of everyday life. The rounded, monumental forms have a warm and approachable quality and invite touch—something Karin actively encourages. She believes art does not have to be elevated or distant. Instead, she aims to create sculptures that are both beautiful and strong in form.

Her works carry tension, strength, and emotion. She often works on commission, collaborating with clients to create a scene that captures a specific feeling. These works are usually produced in small editions and are also exhibited. Karin’s work appeals to a wide audience.

Biography

She has been active in Amsterdam since 1974.

“It is wonderful to work in your studio and forget everything else, but once a sculpture is finished, I also want it to be seen. Exhibiting takes a lot of time that you might prefer to spend sculpting, but you have to be realistic. Sculpture is a profession, and exhibiting is part of it. You have to take that seriously as well.”

Karin considers herself fortunate that one of her first exhibitions (1976) was a group exhibition at Zeist Castle, featuring established sculptors and several young talents. She was invited to participate by lecturers from the Rijksakademie.

Another valuable connection in her early years was with Ina Broerse (then a well-known figure in the gallery world), which led to multiple exhibitions and her work being permanently held in gallery collections.

Since then, Karin has exhibited regularly in various galleries and at art fairs throughout the country.
