Biography

"NEVER REGRET THY FALL, O ICARUS OF THE FEARLESS FLIGHT

FOR THE GREATEST TRAGEDY OF THEM ALL

IS NEVER TO FEEL THE BURNING LIGHT.”

Maurice Den Boer is a multitalented artist. After completing a graphic design education at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, he initially started as a painter. However, he soon found himself spending all his time in the sculpture studios. The clay, the kilns, and the vast array of materials and techniques led him into a new phase of creating spatial artworks.

In the year of his graduation, he was introduced to bronze casting using the cire perdue (lost-wax) method, and he was immediately captivated. During this time, he met the renowned Rotterdam sculptor Per Abramsen, with whom he collaborated on his first project. This marked the beginning of his career in the arts.

Maurice Den Boer mastered all aspects of bronze casting through the cire perdue method and spent many years casting his own sculptures in bronze. Together with Per Abramsen and a group of other sculptors, he established his own bronze foundry in the garden of his first studio. Here, he perfected the bronze casting technique and created many of his unique sculptures. His patinas are also exceptionally refined, carefully applied with a distinctive signature style.

Over the past 20 years, he has built an extensive collection of bronze sculptures and public monuments. His work can be found in private collections and among art enthusiasts both in the Netherlands and abroad.

A few years ago, Maurice Den Boer traded the hustle and bustle of the city for the countryside. Since 2015, he has lived and worked with Tanja in a picturesque village in the Drenthe countryside. A peaceful place with a spacious property where he can work in his studio in complete tranquility. Right next to the studio, he has his gallery, where a permanent exhibition of his bronze sculptures and other objects is displayed.
