The Garden of BIG Art & Garden
The garden of BIG Art & Garden, formerly known as Dehullu Galerie-Beeldentuin and Beelden in Gees, is not just a garden. It is a work of art in itself. The history of this garden dates back to the purchase of the house, located in the agricultural landscape of Gees, on a 4-hectare plot by the DeHullu family.
Trees and Sculptures
From the beginning, the DeHullu family had a clear vision for the garden: to create a place where art and nature go hand in hand. They wanted to design a peaceful space that invites visitors to walk, reflect, and experience the beauty of art within the context of nature. A living canvas where sculptures seamlessly merge with the surrounding flora and fauna.
Two principles were essential: the garden had to include as many different trees as possible, and perfect spaces had to be created for the sculptures. The garden was also inspired by English gardens, which is evident in the rounded shapes that characterize the design.
The first garden was created in 1987, and in the winter of 1996, the new garden was realized. The two gardens are connected by a beautiful old oak hedge, with trees that are over a hundred years old.
The Garden as a Work of Art
What makes the garden of BIG Art & Garden so special is the way in which art and nature blend together. The design of the garden is carefully tailored to accentuate the sculptures without disrupting the natural beauty of the surroundings. Every corner of the garden offers a new perspective, with the sculptures highlighted in different ways by the changing seasons. This makes the garden a dynamic experience that can be rediscovered with each visit.
The garden is not just a place for sculptures but also a haven for a rich variety of plants, trees, and other elements that enhance the landscape. Nature is embraced in all its glory, with a diversity of native and exotic plants, lush flower beds, and majestic trees that complete the atmosphere of the garden. Large planting areas create a sense of tranquility, and the Geser Es is also part of the greater whole.
Sustainable Design
Sustainability was a key principle in the creation of the garden. Environmentally friendly techniques were applied in the design and structure of the garden, such as the use of rainwater for irrigation, the preservation of natural soil types, and the creation of ecological niches for native plants and animals.
Over the years, the garden has been expanded and refined in phases, with new ideas and adjustments continuously shaping its evolution. Every addition has been carefully considered, with attention to detail and deep respect for the landscape.
The Present
Today, the garden has become a leading destination for art and nature enthusiasts. It is not just a place of beauty but also a reflection of the core principles that remain unchanged: art and nature are inseparably connected and deserve to be experienced together. Respect for nature, a commitment to sustainability, and a profound appreciation for the beauty of art.
The garden of BIG Art & Garden stands as a living testament to passion and dedication, offering visitors a unique experience where art and nature meet in perfect harmony.
